Urbis opening…Urbis closing!
the meatyard arts / urbis soiree was a pretty cool wee get together in the great space which is Urbis.
we had six meatyardistas joined by mark page on view and it all was pretty fine.
a whole heap of people showed up and new friends were made as well as old hostilities refreshed… such is the bubble of the foto chattering classes.

it must be added that, unlike my recent bjp awards visit, i was spared the accusation of being ‘the most evil man in existence’…( i’m so glad i left an impression…) unlike many of the pictures that night.
i was not alone in the observation that this london bjp shindig was an event for an ever shrinking coterie of photo shop enthusiasts and car salesmen.
the urbis gathering had a grand mix of rock n roll types and doughty academics as well as the digital back – medium format chin scratchers and a sprinkling of wains too, which was welcome.
next stop for meatyard arts is an exhibition in rotterdam in february… still working on the new york show and then we’r into may for the montpellier foto festival and then back to arles… busy busy busy.. and working on the real, tactile space in rotterdam… coming soon… jd
by the way, how many major cities in the world would close a gallery space and give it to football… shame on manchester city council for doing this to Urbis…
